It Started with a Calendar

Originally, before the pandemic, there were a lot of loosely associated dancers within the DMV (DC, MD, Virginia) scene.

During the Pandemic, since everyone had to remain distanced, even outside. A session came along and brought together everyone who needed minor social interaction with peers.

Dupont Takeover ran during the pandemic playing house music right on the Fountain at Dupont Circle. All Dancers were welcome to get loose and it was a combination of the right people, the music and the pandemic that brought together this subsection of the community.

Planning together

With the community getting closer and closer as we shared space we began to share events and the desire to be out and about with peers grew.
As the Pandemic slowed down and spaces began to open back up, we would often chat about things through Instagram chats.

Eventually we would all start reposting and asking about previously declared information, which quickly became cumbersome.

A Simple Solution

As a community, we put together a google calendar. One that allowed any guests from other places a simple format to find a scene for their short stay and allowed the community to see all the things they could participate in.

Session-Spot.com

While access to the calendar is public, it was still relatively cumbersome to communicate it. Hence, session-spot.com was born. What better way to find information than to put it on an easily accessed website.

And the site is meant to grow.

Session-spot.com is a way for every dance community across the world to find information for themselves.

But it also requires participation from the global dance community.

Beyond the Website

The bigger hope with Session-Spot.com is that it would inspire other dance communities to do something similar. This would make the planning of travel, specifically for residents of the street dance scene, much easier.

While there are resources available in every scene to share those events and resources, we hope that there will be those who want to contribute back into their community and the larger community by making resource information more accessible.

Contributing

For anyone who is a community organizer, wherever you are, we hope that we are able to connect you, through this avenue, to other people who are doing the same.

If you know of resources that we can share about any street dance scene anywhere, please send it forward to us.

We would be happy to include the information on session-spot.com

We have to work together as a global community to continue to grow our scene our way, so we hope to hear from you soon!

See y’all in the cypher!
